{2015} Review of 京华小吃 Jing Hua Xiao Chi @ Neil Road
hello lovelies:>,
I am here again to review 京华小吃 Jing Hua Xiao Chi @ Neil Road. They have been in the papers a few times already and being a fan of 小笼包,饺子,煎饺, yes you get the idea. So i had to give this a try.
They have three branches with the Neil Road one being the first one. The other twos are located at Orchard and Bugis. I will put down the alternative branch's addressees down below so look below for more information.
Surroundings. They had a constant amount of people walking in but they are not packed for a Saturday night. Plenty of seats available:>
Menu:)
Tick the quantity yourself and hand it to one of the waitresses.
Sweet and Sour soup. Pretty disappointing as it was not sour at all and it was so starchy and lumps of starch were clearly visible. Not recommended:/
jajangmian 炸酱面 Noodles were chewy and i could tell they were homemade and springy. Not too bad. Above average.
clearer shot of the noodles
Pan fried dumplings(三鲜锅贴) Crispy and juicy. The meat juices flow and the meat inside the dumplings are soft and marinated. Melt in the mouth
Boiled Dumplings(三鲜饺子)I would say these were the bomb. They were the more healthy option but the skin was thin and yet did not break although they were boiled. They had a firm texture to it and the meat inside was nicely marinated. These dumplings were one of the most juicy dumplings i ever had. Awesome!
Xiao Long Bao (小笼包) These were pretty average i would say. Ding Tai Fung's or any other chain's would easily beat them. However i would say their broth was much lighter than any other chain was less oily. Also i think they avoided too much MSG. Tasted really homemade but if you love flavourful xiaolongbaos, they are not the ones.
osthmanthus Ballings(桂花汤圆)These were incredily light but my mum felt that the soup was too sweet. I felt that they were meant to be eaten together in order to not be so sweet. But i liked them as i like the light lingering scent of the osthmanthus..
Filling was the first time i like these kinds of filling, homemade and not sweet at all(I am really picky about sweetness as i avoid sweet stuff normally)
Red Bean Pancake(豆沙锅饼) These were awesome... It was very crispy on the outside and the inside was very glutinous. Very addictive and usually i avoid fried foods but these were so mouth watering that i had 3.... Must order. The filling was also not too sweet but just right:>
Our bill:)
Overall, they were a good outlet but i doubt i will be back when i find a better outlet selling these types of Chinese food.
